Description

Signed and dated on verso 'Pietro de Rossi fecit Mosco 1810'. Halfportrait viewing to the right. On his purple jacket he wears the Order of St Andrew, which he was awarded in 1774, and around his neck he has the Order of Alexander Nevsky, which he was awarded in 1762. Prince Alexander Mikhailovich Golitsin was the son of an admiral. He entered the diplomatic service at the age of 19. He was subsequently a diplomat in the Netherlands and London. He helped Catherine II to the throne. From 1778, the famous art collector lived in Moscow, where he also had a hospital built. Miniature of the highest quality executed in extremely fine painting.
