Provenance: The painting comes from a private collection in the Rhineland from which Hargesheimer Kunstauktionen Düsseldorf has already successfully sold important works of art, such as an extensive collection of 'Medieval Miniatures and Illuminations' (cf. auction 56, of 21 March 2015) as well as Francescuccio Ghissi's painting of the 'Enthroned Mother of God with Child and Selected Saints (Maesta)' (cf. auction 40, of 21 September 2013, lot 2051). Cf. on an almost idendic composition and representation of Vincenzo Catena: 'Fondazione Federico Zeri Universià di Bologna, number 28224, Vincenzo Catena (attr.) Ritratto di Uomo con spartito musicale'. There indication of an alternative attribution Lorenzo Lotto.
