In delicate, finely applied pastel shades, the portrait painter Albert Lynch creates here this wonderfully shimmering portrait of two elegant ladies in a rose garden. Light-heartedly, they stroll through nature in beautiful dresses made of light, transparent chiffon and pleated fabrics to admire the magnificent rose blossoms. Albert Lynch specialised early in his work in the depiction of fine ladies of the Belle Époque, reflecting the elegance and carelessness of the time. A Peruvian painter of Irish descent, Lynch was drawn to Paris in 1878 to study at the École des Beaux-Arts under the portrait painters Gabriel Ferrier (1847-1914) and Henri Lehmann (1814-1882). In 1890 and 1892 he exhibited at the Paris Salon and was awarded a gold medal at the 1900 World's Fair.
